The longer-term ambition is aggressive, XPENG has talked about scaling toward roughly one million units by 2030. That's a stated goal, not a shipped reality, and humanoid timelines slip often, so it's fair to hold that number loosely.

For US buyers specifically, there's an extra caveat. IRON is a China-domestic product at launch, availability, import paths and any kind of American support network are all unconfirmed. If you're in the States, this is a robot to watch, not one you can order today.

Is the XPENG IRON autonomous or teleoperated?

This is the honest heart of the question after that viral demo. The stage version wasn't a human in a suit, XPENG proved that, but polished demos across the whole industry often lean on teleoperation or heavily scripted routines. XPENG's stated direction is to move IRON from teleoperated tasks toward semi-autonomous operation using its VLA model and on-device compute.

One point in XPENG's favor: the company introduced what it calls a privacy-first 'Fourth Law,' saying interactions and sensor data stay stored locally on the robot rather than streaming to the cloud. On presentation, IRON currently wins the 'looks human' contest, that solid-state battery, the bionic skin and the 82-DOF body give it a smoothness Optimus demos haven't matched. On deployment credibility, neither has a huge external, paying customer base yet, so a lot of this is still promise versus promise.
